Tipping is always appreciated, but should never be expected [by the contractor]. There are different ways to tip: offering beverages and/or food during the project. Giving appreciation by expressing how much you value their good work. Saying thank you. Depending on the cost of the project and your budget, a cash tip is a sign of gratitude. For an 8-week project, I think $100 is kind and generous. If you have more money, give more money. If you cannot afford it at the time, wait until the holidays or until you have extra money. Gratitude, tangible or intangible, is the energy that keeps people going in life. It is the power of civility.
